Dermshield – Adhesive bandage

Dermshield is a transparent bandage that seals in your body’s natural fluids to help promote a cleaner and faster healing process. The bandage is breathable and waterproof so you may shower with it. Plasma and fluid will buildup beneath the bandage and is completely normal and moisturizing for the healing process.

Instructions

  • Leave your bandage on for 4-5 days, no longer than 5 days.

  • Remove in the shower under warm water to help loosen the adhesive.

  • Gently lift one corner and slowly peel it back, pulling against the direction of hair growth and being careful not to pull too hard on the skin.

  • Rinse with a non-scented antibacterial liquid soap (we recommend liquid dial, no bars). Use only your hands to gently clean the area. Loofas, sponges and towels are too abrasive and can damage your tattoo.

  • Dry the tattoo by blotting with a clean paper towel or letting it air dry (you do not want to rub a fresh tattoo)

  • Apply a very thin layer of fragrance-free moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated during the rest of the healing process (we recommend Hustle Butter Deluxe or Lubiderm).

  • Apply thin layers of lotion 3-5 times a day (or when the skin feels dry) for the next few weeks.

*Some skin may be sensitive to Dermshield and its adhesive. If there’s any redness or discomfort around the edges of the bandage, please remove it immediately to avoid irritation and blistering. Continue to follow the cleaning and moisturizing instructions above.

Plastic Wrap – Temporary bandage

During the first 24-48 hours, your tattoo will continue to weep fluids, plasma and excess ink. This is perfectly normal and the amount of fluid will vary from person to person. Depending on your tattoo artist's instructions, you may need to repeat the plastic wrap and cleaning process for the first few days after getting the tattoo.

Instructions

  • After leaving the shop, keep your tattoo bandaged for 2-4 hours or until you’re home and can safely clean your tattoo.

  • Remove your wrap and wash with a non-scented antibacterial liquid soap (we recommend liquid dial, no bars). Use only your hands to gently clean the area. Loofas, sponges and towels are too abrasive and can damage your tattoo.

  • Dry the tattoo by blotting with a clean paper towel or letting it air dry (you do not want to rub a fresh tattoo).

  • Apply a very thin layer of fragrance-free moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated during the healing process (we recommend Hustle Butter Deluxe). Avoid using petroleum-based products, as they can clog pores and hinder healing. If you choose to use Aquaphor as an alternative, only apply for 2 weeks before switching to a fragrance-free moisturizer.

  • Repeat these cleaning and moisturizing steps 2 times a day for the next few weeks.

Aftercare Tips

Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning and excessive sweating. Avoid soaking your tattoo in water. NO swimming pools, hot tubs, or baths during the initial healing period. Prolonged exposure to water can soften the skin and increase the risk of infection. Resist the urge to scratch or pick at your tattoo, gently pat the area instead. Wear loose-fitting, breathable clothing. If you have any questions or concerns about caring for your tattoo, don't hesitate to reach out to your tattoo artist for guidance.
